Frequently asked questions

HOW MANY SESSIONS DO WE NEED?

As people receive counseling for various needs or results, we cannot say how many sessions are needed to provide the corrective therapy needed for your individual/couple needs. Since we also work with you with issues you may bring into the relationship such as childhood traumas, conflicts, etc., this may also lengthen the time needed for therapy. Therefore, counseling is for as long or as needed by the client.

HOW LONG ARE MARRIAGE COUNSELING AND COUPLES THERAPY SESSIONS?

Sessions are one hour and are normally weekly unless a more intensive treatment option is suggested. Weekend or holiday sessions are available on special accommodation and are priced at a weekend/holiday rate. Intensive treatment sessions are typically scheduled for two (2) hours.

HOW EFFECTIVE ARE YOUR SERVICES?

We discover patterns that get in the way of effectively communicating and working together. We then uncover the core issues that create conflict and disconnection and provide solution based treatment plans for healing and effectiveness.

WHAT IS THE GOAL OF COUPLES COUNSELING?

The goal of couple’s counseling is to minimize fights, conflict and discord. We work with you to build a relationship that feels safe, secure and loving.

WHAT WILL MY RELATIONSHIP LOOK LIKE AFTER COUNSELING?

We work very closely with our clients and respond to feedback. We want you to be satisfied with the work and the progress you are making. Additionally, we have extensive training and experience in working with couples.

HOW DO I KNOW IF I NEED MARRIAGE OR RELATIONSHIP COUNSELING OR THERAPY?

Sometimes you can recognize when your relationship is in crisis whereas other times, it can help if you had a third party to help you resolve issues that you are frequently fighting over, especially if you are having communication issues. Couples also seek counseling even when they are in healthy relationships. This is to help them improve or navigate in certain areas of their lives that maybe coming up and they’ve never had to encounter.

WE’VE TRIED THERAPY BEFORE AND IT DIDN’T WORK.  WHY ARE YOU DIFFERENT?

Not all couples therapies or therapists are created equal. Even though therapy hasn’t worked for you in the past doesn’t mean WE can’t help you. We have effective treatment plans backed by a research-based roadmap to helping you reconnect.

WILL YOU TAKE SIDES OR WILL I BE BLAMED?

No. We are completely objective when we are conducting couple’s counseling. As your therapists, it is important that we don’t take sides. Your partner and you should feel safe and supported working with us.

I WANT TO COME TO COUPLES THERAPY BUT MY PARTNER WON’T.  DOES MY SPOUSE OR PARTNER NEED TO ATTEND?

In an ideal world, in order for couple’s therapy to work, both people should attend every session. Nevertheless, individual therapy can be very helpful in building and strengthening relationships. Give us a call and we can strategize about the best therapy for your needs.

WHY IS THERAPY SO EXPENSIVE?

Yes, therapy can be expensive but we make sure that it’s worth it. After all, it’s more cost effective to go to a specialist that charges more but gets results than someone cheaper and less trained. Your relationship is worth it.

DO YOU TREAT ISSUES AROUND INFIDELITY?

Yes, we frequently work with issues of infidelity and rebuilding trust after physical or emotional affairs.

DO YOU SEE COUPLES WHO ARE DIVORCED?

Yes. Oftentimes, people who are divorced still need to communicate with each other. We can help make this and even co-parenting easier.

DO YOU OFFER PREMARITAL COUNSELING?

Yes, we do. We want to ensure that you know what you are getting into before marriage. Therapy is the best place to work on these issues before making the commitment to marriage.

DO YOU OFFER A RELATIONSHIP CHECK-UP?

Yes, of course. Any time when you aren’t feeling good about your relationship is a great time to seek help. Call us!

DO YOU COUNSEL COUPLES WHO ARE SEPARATED?

Yes. Separation can be a difficult time when the future of a relationship hangs in the balance. We are here to help!

ARE YOU A SEX THERAPIST? DO YOU PROVIDE SEX THERAPY? DO YOU DEAL WITH ISSUES AROUND SEX?

While we are not certified sex therapists, we are experts in intimacy. Issues about sex and sexuality are common and we are comfortable working with you about them. In the event you would like to speak with a Sex Therapist, we would be more than happy to refer you to one.

DO YOU ACCEPT INSURANCE?  HOW MUCH DO YOU CHARGE FOR MARRIAGE/RELATIONSHIP COUNSELING?

We do not accept insurance. Our pricing is $125.00/ hourly session and is due prior to each session.

HOW LONG AND WHERE ARE THE SESSIONS DONE?

Each one hour session is virtual and is normally weekly unless a more intensive treatment option is suggested.
